Why aren’t these words at the forefront of custom design and build thinking in the arts and events industry?
We as an industry need to re-imagine and re-define how we design and build to align with the global focus on environmentally sustainable practices to ensure we are making positive change for a better future.
Not just talk about it but do it!
The design and build teams at Iceworks Design are developing a program to provide our clients and the wider industry an avenue to align with environmentally sustainable practices within bespoke built environments for the arts, event and brand industries.
The idea that single use sets provide the best outcomes for our clients is out of date. We need to change our thinking to reduce waste, encourage recycling and lower our overall environmental impact. It is imperative our industry starts to consider how we deal with these issues whilst maintaining ongoing value for our clients creatively, practically and financially.
We need to consider our process from concept through to delivery. Everything from design and build methodologies through to materials and finishes. Every item within a project can be aligned with a sustainable process or product. It takes a little extra time and sometimes a little extra cash but at the end of the day, if we do it right, we can create a new way of thinking for how both ourselves and our clients deliver their projects.
With our first steps into this space we have provided an opportunity to young designers via The Emerging Designers program to take on the challenge of the RESET initiative and devise a concept for a set that is Re-usable, Re-configurable, Re-deployable and Re-cyclable. Their ideas and associated research were so strong we developed the concept into a deliverable set with a complete focus on the principles of RESET.
The result, as you will see, is amazing!
The RESET program continues to evolve with new concepts and products on the horizon.
Stay tuned! Exciting times ahead!
